Night

The ever evasive sleep. I’m not what one would describe as a good sleeper. My mind races, waking up at 3 am practically on the dot. To try and get some quality rest, I’ve read just about every tip and article out there, and have started a new routine to get myself to slowdown.

My new night:

The most important thing for me is to shut off the tv and close down my computer at around 8:30. This happens about 50% of the time, but it’s a good goal.

Then I draw myself a really warm bath. I pour in Epsom salts and a soothing bubble bath with aromatherapy like lavender. This sets the mood.

While the tub is filling up, I dry brush my skin. I learned about dry skin brushing when I was doing the Clean Program cleanse. It’s a great way to detox your skin, which just so happens to be your biggest organ. Once you get used to it, it’s kinda like a mini massage.

When I’m in the bath I’ll do a little meditation, and do something luxe like putting on a mask (I’m currently very into this Nude Skincare overnight mask). Interesting fun fact of the day: baths are great before bed because when you get out your inner temperature drops which makes you sleepy. Nice to know, right?

Now, here’s the really tough part, before I climb into bed I put my phones in the living room. Having my phones next to my bed is too distracting and I think it’s one of the reasons why I’m restless (because, seriously what’s happening on Instagram?!)

The only thing left to do is make some tea and do a little light reading. And then of course, sleep.

What do you do to fall asleep? Any tips? Would love to hear your tips for getting a good night sleep!

  1. Sounds like a great routine. I wish I can do that. But I’m very anxious and stressed when I don’t have my boys with me. I find myself waking up at 2 am pacing the house. I pace until my legs can’t carry me anymore and I go to bed. Or I read. I read a romantic novel that will set my mind free.

    • It is an effective technique for aiding the body and its need for daily detoxification. When you do skin brushing, you help the lymphatic system to cleanse the body and rid itself of toxins. The gentle sweeping strokes encourages the discharge of metabolic wastes along with the removal of the toxic influences from soaps, skin creams, antiperspirants and promotes healthy skin.

    • Agreed! With my new job I’ve had trouble sleeping, so I’ve turned to chamomile. I’m usually out before I’ve gotten 1/2 way through the mug and sleep the whole night.

  2. I finding doing a day review a wonderful way of closing the day for rest.
When in bed review the whole day and send love to those who you think needed it, repay the events you think you could have done better DONE better! And tell yourself good night your loved and tomorrow is a brand new day!
    Always love your blog Laney

  3. I like to steam my face with either a facial steamer or by boiling water over stove. I also like to rub lotion on hands and feet and sleep with socks on to give my feet an extra boost of hydration.
